“There is nothing higher-class than the real craftsmanship, diversity, originality and the service of skilled human hands.”

“The loss of craftsmanship has turned America into a sweeping franchised wasteland of disposable goods.”

Bryant H. McGill, Author

We are proud that each of our knives are built, ground, shaped, polished and sharpened by hand. It takes many years to master these skills and it ads character to our knives. Some hand made pocket and fixed blade knives feel like being a bit thinner and some like a slightly larger radius on the handle. The materials in each knife speak to the maker as their beauty unfolds and they transform from metal, wood and rock into a tool... a knife. We don’t do it all by hand though; our Damascus steel folding knives require exacting tolerances in the pivot and lock areas and even our experienced craftsmen do not have hands this steady. We therefore machine these components before they are assembled into a knife. This precision is consistent and repeatable in our products. There are few sounds more satisfying than the sharp click of a well-made knife as it locks opens precisely, ready for use.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

MATERIALS

While we believe that knives are first and foremost a tool, we also believe in transforming the tool into a true work of art; A unique piece that can be admired as jewelry, making a statement.  A knife says something about who you are and what makes you different. One of the ways we build our hand made pocket and fixed blade knives differently is by using fine and exotic materials to make our knives special and something to share. Our most high-end knives use exotic and beautiful materials such as fossilized mammoth tooth and ivory dug from the ice of Siberia and Alaska from animals that roamed the earth tens of thousands of years ago. We also use brain coral, exotic and beautiful woods with stunning patterns that can only be created by time and nature herself. These fantastic materials are used alongside titanium and Damascus. The combination of which provides an extremely light, durable and exquisite knife.

Modern Damascus is more accurately described as "welded steel"

It is very unlike the Damascus or "Wootz steel" of the old ages. There is quite a bit of debate surrounding the original Damascus steel, so we will stay clear of that and explain what we know best....modern Damascus. It is created by using 2 or more types of steel that are placed in layers, heated and hammer forged into a single piece. Some Damascus is hand-forged with a hammer and fist, and some is forged using a simple machine called an air hammer. Both methods produce a "welded" result as they combine the different types of steel and layers into a single bar. This bar is then folded over, hammered out and the process is repeated until the desired number of layers has been achieved.

We believe Damascus steel is the best possible steel to use for a knife. The process of combining different steels into a single blade results in the property of each of these materials coming to bear in the performance of the knife. Many materials that hold an edge well are brittle and hard to sharpen. Knife steels that are less likely to break are softer and don’t hold an edge as well. When you choose a Damascus steel folding or fixed blade knife, you get all these properties. An extremely tough, nearly unbreakable blade, that holds and incredible edge and is easy to sharpen. We believe Damascus to be one of the best cutting steels available. It is also beautiful, distinguished and full of character…. a perfect fit for our fine knives.
